Our exclusive toys are inspired by Waldorf-pedagogy which is practised in Rudolf Steiner- also known as Waldorf - kinderkartens all over the world.
That is to say, that toys should nourish healthy development of the small child's senses, without setting any limits for the child's imagination. That is why our toys are made entirely of natural materials and are simply but beautifully formed without superfluous detail. Wood is ideal for such toys. Wood is a warm substance, it has its own inherent colour often with light and dark markings, it can be lighter or heavier in weight, the surface can be rough or smooth, it gives various sounds when struck, and it smells good. Wood becomes even more attractive with use, and can usually be repaired if it should get damaged. (Can one say all that about plastic?)
Our toys are carefully finished by hand, using non-toxic water-based stain and/or oil or beeswax. Wooden toys can stand getting wet, but must be allowed to dry slowly away from direct heat. They can be freshened up if necessary with a little oil.
Dolls and soft toys are individually made of cotton or wool and are stuffed with carded wool. They can be wiped clean with a damp cloth. But if more is needed, they can be washed very carefully in mild, lukewarm, slightly soapy water (as you would with a fine wool garment), rinsed well and dried flat away from direct heat.
